グレゴワール・ブランは、テルミンを用いた作品で知られるフランスの若手音楽家だ。テルミンは1920年代にかの伝説的なレフ・セルゲイビッチ・テルミンによって発明された非常にユニークな楽器である。そのミニマルなデザインにもかかわらず、テルミンは今日に至るまで最も表現力豊かな電子楽器のひとつであり続けている。

グレゴワールの音楽の旅は、幼い頃からチェロを弾き、クラシックの素養を育むことから始まった。高校時代にテルミンと出会ったことが決定的だった。名門の工学部Arts et Métiersと、IRCAMによるソルボンヌ大学の音楽応用科学の2つの修士号を取得した後、ついに音楽の道に進むことを決意した。

将来有望なアーティストとして脚光を集めるグレゴワール・ブランは、世界各地へ定期的に招かれている。カナダからカザフスタンまで、クラシック・コンサート、コンテンポラリー・シアター、ダンス・パフォーマンス、レクチャー、スタジオ録音など、その活動は多岐にわたる。現在も、電子音楽における表現力を中心に芸術的研究を続けており、音色やテクニックをシームレスに融合させながら、独自の音楽的・音響的語彙を開発し、新たな視点を探求している。

近年では、メノルカ島の「Pedra Viva」フェスティバル、ベルギーの「Musica Divina」、フランスの「Toulouse les Orgues」、「Les Étoiles du Classique」などに出演したほか、スイス、ドイツ、アイルランド、エストニアなどで多くのイベントに参加した。これらのライブ・パフォーマンスに加え、グレゴワール・ブランは映画音楽の分野にも進出し、ドミニカ共和国のパブロ・チア監督による初の長編映画「Croma Kid」が2023年度・ロッテルダム国際映画祭で上映された。

Grégoire Blanc is a young French musician, mostly known for his work involving the theremin – this very unique musical instrument, invented in the 1920s by the legendary Lev Sergueïevitch Termen. Despite its minimalistic design, the theremin continues to be one of the most expressive electronic instruments to this day.

Grégoire’s musical journey started at an early age with the cello, nurturing a strong classical background. His first encounter with the theremin in high school was decisive. Following the completion of two Master’s Degrees, one from the prestigious engineering school of Arts et Métiers and another one in sciences applied to music offered at Sorbonne University by IRCAM, he finally decided to pursue a career in music.

Widely recognized as a promising artist, Grégoire Blanc is regularly invited to perform in diverse settings worldwide. His engagements span across classical concerts, contemporary theater and dance performances, lectures, and studio recordings, from Canada to Kazakhstan. His ongoing artistic research centres around expressiveness in electronic music, leading him to explore new perspectives, seamlessly blending tones and techniques to develop his own musical and sonic vocabulary.

In the past year, he performed at ‘Pedra Viva’ festival in Menorca, ‘Musica Divina’ in Belgium, ‘Toulouse les Orgues’ and ‘Les Étoiles du Classique’ in France, and took part to many other events in Switzerland, Germany, Ireland, and Estonia. In addition to these live performances, Grégoire Blanc has recently ventured into film scoring, with a first feature film, ‘Croma Kid,’ directed by Pablo Chea in the Dominican Republic, which has been featured at the International Film Festival Rotterdam 2023.
